Honoring the Role Players Who Shaped the NBA

This blog is for the NBA sickos, the elite ball knowers. I will not be picking apart every little event’s impact on LeBron’s legacy or debating whether rings define a player’s greatness. The mainstream media has that WELL covered.

Instead, I’m here to turn the spotlight on the guys whose names have been forgotten over the years – the career role players who had to fight for playing time in the league. Maybe they didn’t leave a Hall of Fame worthy legacy behind, but they still made meaningful contributions to the game and the franchises they suited up for. Those are the guys I want to remember and archive here.

I’m assuming the reader has a bit more than a basic understanding of basketball terminology. While it’s not incredibly important to know what “50/40/90 shooting splits” or true shooting percentage (TS%) means, I believe knowing these terms still provides significant context to the overall narrative I want to portray. Any statistic I mention was verified with Basketball Reference (basketball-reference.com).

For those curious how I choose who I write about, I use the following criteria:

  • Not a starter for the vast majority of career
  • No All-Star appearances
  • No NBA Award winners – not even Sixth Man of the Year
  • No All-NBA designations
